Kamloops' Parkcrest elementary gutted by fire

Parkcrest elementary appears to have been gutted as a fire at the Brocklehurst school continued to burn at 7 p.m. on Thursday, almost two hours after it began.

It lo appeared the primary wing was seriously damaged as that is where a portion of the building collapsed at about 6:30 p.m.

Kamloops Fire Rescue crews were called out to 2170 Parkcrest Ave. just after 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon following reports of black smoke coming from the rooftop.

At least six fire trucks were on scene along with two ambulances and police doing traffic control on Parkcrest Avenue.

The fire appeared to be coming from the roof near the middle of the school.

The cause and origin of the fire is unknown.
