Homicide detectives have been called in to investigate after one person was shot dead in Surrey early Friday morning.

Shortly after midnight Thursday, Surrey Mounties were called out to a fight in the 1600-block of 160 street.

When they arrived, they found a person suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim later died from injuries.

Police say the people involved know each other and believe there is no risk to the public.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called and will be working with the Surrey RCMP Major Crime Section.

Police have not released any information about the victim, and have not said whether they have a suspect.

RCMP say 60 Street is shut down for both north and south bound traffic between 16th Avenue and Alder Place.

Shortly after 3 a.m., RCMP said traffic will be affected for “an unknown amount of time.”
