1. Manuel Liñán. After choreographing for other renowned companies, and having made his mark as a solo dancer, Manuel Liñán combines these two skills in Baile De Autor (Dance of the Author). The festival is presenting the Canadian premiere of this work, in which Liñán allows the audience a glimpse into his creation process.
2. La Otra Orilla. Based on the collaboration between dancer and choreographer Myriam Allard and singer-director Hedi Graja, the Montreal company is known for its innovative approach to flamenco. In the world premiere of new full-length piece Magnetikae, dance collides with what the company calls “an imaginary land of ice, in a fusion deftly enhanced by the music, sets, lighting and costumes.”
3. La Caramelita Flamenco Company. The company includes performers from Spain, France and Canada, including dancer/artistic director (and Vancouver native) Deborah “La Caramelita” Dawson. The company presents the Vancouver premiere of Nritya, a show that investigates the bonds between flamenco and Dawson’s South Indian roots.
4. Flamenco Rosario & Guests. Festival presenter Flamenco Rosario, headed by artistic director/choreographer Rosario Ancer, teams up with musical director Victor Kolstee and guest dancer/choreographer Gabriel Aragu (Seville) for a set of new pieces.
5. La Musica del Flamenco. Flamenco Rosario musical director/guitarist Victor Kolstee hosts this evening highlighting flamenco music. Guests include Manuel Liñán Company and singer David Carpio and guitarist Manuel Valencia.
