Four British Airways flights between Vancouver and London have been cancelled as result of a 48-hour strike by the airline’s pilots.

The airline grounded 1,700 flights to and from London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports, affecting some 195,000 passengers, due to the job action.

British Airways cancelled its Sunday and Monday 8:55 p.m. flights from YVR to Heathrow, and its daily 5:20 p.m. flights on Monday and Tuesday from London to Vancouver.

Tuesday’s 8:55 p.m. flight to Heathrow out of Vancouver has not been cancelled.

The airline is directing affected passengers to its website for rebooking and refund options.

BA has offered its pilots an 11.5 per cent pay rise over three years, which it said would take the pay of its highest earning captains from 167,000 pounds ($271,000 Cdn), plus 16,000 pounds ($21,000) in allowances, to just over 200,000 pounds ($325,000).

Its pilots on average earn around 90,000 pounds ($146,000) a year.

The union wants the pay deal to include profit-sharing.
