High-risk offender walks away from Vancouver halfway house

Vancouver police are requesting the public’s help in locating a high-risk offender who failed to return to his halfway house on Sunday.

Taylin Francis Brent Checkosis, 26, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching his release conditions.

In 2013, he was sentenced to six years, six months, and 17 days after being convicted of assault, aggravated assault and being an accessory after the fact to murder in connection with the 2011 shooting death of Jaron Jahnke in Saskatoon.

A 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

He is described as an Indigenous male, 5-feet-10 and 160 pounds with dark hair with brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, grey athletic pants, black baseball cap and black shoes. He was carrying a black backpack.

Anyone who sees Checkosis, or has information about his whereabouts, is asked to call 911 immediately.
