BAGUIO CITY: The city government is contemplating on filing a protest case against the management of Cebu Pacific for the inconvenience suffered by its athletes who missed their August 25 flight to Puerto Princesa, where the just concluded Batang Pinoy national championship was held.

City Administrator Bonifacio dela Peña said he would meet with the city’s judo athletes and coaches to get the details of the incident, and he thanked the people who remedied their overnight stay in Metro Manila and made the purchase of expensive plane tickets the following day just to be able to catch up with the judo competitions.

Based on the reports that reached the City Administrator’s Office, the city’s 11-person judo team with their coaches arrived at the Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino
International Airport (NAIA) two hours before their scheduled flight to Puerto Princesa checked in and waited for their flight at the designated boarding gate.

For still unknown reasons, the boarding gate was moved without prior advise. The team said they only found out about the transfer at the last minute of boarding, which forced them to rush to the new boarding gate.

The city’s judo athletes and coaches were not allowed to board their flight despite persistent appeals.

The incident went viral on social media when it was posted by the embattled judo athletes and their coaches. The post got the attention of kind-hearted individuals, from here and abroad, who pledged financial support so they would be able to recover the losses they incurred.

Dela Peña claimed Cebu Pacific promised to reimburse the members of the city’s delegation the amount of P40,000, which represent almost one half of the total expenses they shelled out just for them to be able to reach their destination in time for the games.
