The B.C. SPCA has launched an investigation into the death of a kitten in Kelowna that was found dead in an alley with a rope tied around its neck.

The body of the kitten, which the SPCA says was less than six weeks old, was found by Kelowna resident Julie Fidler in the area of Ponto and McIntosh roads.

“It looks as if someone has tied a string around its neck and tacked it to a wall,” Fidler said in a Facebook post. “This is beyond horrifying.”

The SPCA, which recovered the kitten’s body, has ordered a necropsy to determine the cause of death.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation but we urge anyone with any information about this case to please call our provincial call centre at 1-855-622-7722,” said Brian Kijowski, B.C. SPCA regional manager of cruelty investigations.
