Vancouver police have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with a Christmas Day homicide at a downtown men’s shelter.

Larry Johnson, a Vancouver resident, was arrested Wednesday and has now been charged with one count of manslaughter in connection with the Dec. 25, 2018 attack that claimed the life of 49-year-old Ralph House.

Police responded to an assault at an all-male shelter near Cambie and Robson streets at 7 p.m. on Christmas Day. House was found suffering from a head injury and was taken to hospital where he died several days later.

VPD spokesman Const. Steve Addison said the incident was targeted and there was never any risk to the public.

“Homicide investigations can be complex and challenging cases to solve,” said Addison.

Johnson remains in custody pending his next court appearance on Oct. 3.
