While her mother counts the days before the start of a prison sentence, Sophia Macy, one of the students at the centre of the U.S. college admissions scandal, is stepping in front of the camera in Vancouver.

Sophia Macy, 19, has landed the lead in the opening episode of Season 2 of the Twilight Zone, filming this week in Vancouver, and is part of the cast of the locally produced series When the Street Lights Go, a drama starring Queen Latifah and Tony Hale for the streaming service Quibo.

Sophia Macy was spotted holding hands with her father, the actor William H. Macy, during a weekend stroll through Downtown Vancouver on the weekend.

Her only previous acting credit was as an extra in the 2017 Vancouver-filmed feature The Layover, which was directed by her dad.

Her mother, Academy Award-nominated actress Felicity Huffman, was sentenced last month to 14 days in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy related to her payment of $15,000 to have someone secretly correct answers her daughter Sophia provided on the SAT standardized test used for college admissions.

Huffman was one of 51 parents collared in the U.S. federal investigation into a far-reaching criminal conspiracy that helped privileged kids with middling grades gain admission to elite U.S. universities.

Vancouver businessman David Sidoo, actress Lori Loughlin and Surrey woman Xiaoning Sui have also been charged.

Huffman, the first parent to be sentenced in the scandal, will begin her two-week prison term Oct. 25.
