Teachers to Duterte: P30K entry-level pay

MANILA, Philippines — Public school teachers were not moved by President Rodrigo Duterte’s promise to raise their salaries, saying this could be another of his empty promises midway into his term.

Hundreds of protesters belonging to Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) marched on Monday in Pasay City where they once again made a “30K” human formation to demonstrate their call for a P30,000 entry-level pay.

“Aside from clarity … what we need from the President is not another empty promise but a concrete, clear-cut and tangible measure with a definite timeline for a substantial increase for teachers and all other civilian employees,” ACT national chair Joselyn Martinez said. —Dexter Cabalza
