MANILA Electric Co. (Meralco) will raise electricity rates by P0.0448 per kilowatt hour (kWh) this October, a month after decreasing rates.

This means the cost of electricity will go up to P9.0862 per kWh from P9.0414 per kWh in September.

Households that consume 200 kWh will have an increase of P8.96 in their monthly bill; a 300-kWh consumption will incur a P13.44 increase; 400 kWh, P17.93; and 500 kWh, P22.4.

“Even with the slight increase this month, following five straight months of decrease, there has been a total downward adjustment of electricity rates amounting to almost P1.47 per kWh since April 2019,” Meralco said in a statement on Tuesday.

Meralco said the generation charge for October rose by P0.0215 per kWh to P4.5406 per kWh from P4.5191 per kWh in September.

The listed firm accounted for the slight increase to a smaller Net Settlement Surplus (NSS) refund for October from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). JORDEENE B. LAGARE
