The four victims involved in a fatal Kamloops vehicle collision early Sunday have been identified as Thompson Rivers University students.

In a message shared Monday, TRU president Brett Fairbairn said the four people riding in the car were past and present international students. Two were killed in the crash, while one remains in critical condition, said Fairbairn in his message.

“Our deepest thoughts are with their families and loved ones, and on behalf of TRU, I offer our condolences,” wrote Fairbairn.

“As these were international students and alumni, our concern is also for our colleagues at TRU World. We grieve with them, along with others – friends, classmates and professors.”

Fairbairn said counselling services were being made available for students and staff at the university. No further information would be shared about the students’ identities.

According to Kamloops RCMP, the collision involved a car and a pickup truck and took place around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday. Two of the occupants of the car were killed, while one was critically injured.

The driver of the truck fled the area before police arrived but the registered owner was later located and arrested.

Anyone with information about the collision, or who may have witnessed the collision, is asked to contact investigators at 250-828-3000.
