Homicide investigators have taken over a case in north Surrey after a man died following an attack on Monday.

According to Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Joe Johal, police were called to a report of a disturbance in the 10700-block of 124th Street around 5 p.m. Monday. A critically injured man was found; Johal says the victim died before he could be taken to hospital.

Johal says the slaying doesn’t appear to be random, but isn’t believed to be linked to gang activity.

He didn’t confirm a cause of death for the 30-something-year-old man.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, comprising RCMP and municipal police officers from detachments across the Lower Mainland, has been called in and is seeking a suspect.

According to IHIT, the suspect was last spotted headed north on 124th Street wearing a dark-coloured hoodie and dark sweatpants. The suspect may have suffered injuries during the altercation.
