A Vancouver parks commissioner wants to extend the swimming season at two outdoor pools.
John Irwin submitted a motion at a Nov. 4 board meeting in which he recommends the board approve a pilot program in 2020 to open Kitsilano and New Brighton outdoor pools two or three weeks earlier in the spring, and close them three or four weeks later in the fall.
Both seaside pools were open May 18 to Sept. 15 in 2019.
Irwin recommends that park board staff analyze the costs, benefits and impacts of the trial and report back to the board with recommendations in 2021.
