Traffic is expected to ease in parts of Bulacan province at the end of this month after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) inaugurated the Philippine Arena Interchange in Bocaue town on Tuesday.

The interchange has an 80-lineal meter bridge connecting Bocaue Municipal Hall, NLEX, Ciudad de Victoria and the Bocaue-Sta. Maria Bypass Road.

The Manila-bound route of the interchange — from the Philippine Arena to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) — will open on Friday, while the opposite route will open in time for the 30th Southeast Asian Games opening ceremony on Saturday.

It is expected to improve mobility and accessibility to Bulacan, specifically the municipalities of Bocaue, Sta. Maria, Pandi, Norzagaray and Angat.

“The Philippine Arena Interchange is just one of our priority projects in Bulacan to help ease mounting traffic along Governor F. Halili Road in Bocaue-Sta.Maria and address the usual heavy traffic situation at the Bocaue Interchange,” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said.

With the interchange, Villar anticipates that trade and commerce in the province would improve.

For his part, NLEX Corp. President and General Manager J. Luigi Bautista said his company was “keen on supporting the government’s infrastructure plan as it also provides travel convenience for motorists using the expressway system and opens up opportunities for local communities.”

A 1.3-kilometer road connecting Philippine Arena to Patubig Road in Marilao will also be built.
