Travellers heading to and from the Vancouver International Airport may experience delays on Black Friday and on the weekend.

YVR is alerting passengers to plan ahead because it is expecting heavy traffic because of the annual Black Friday sales at the nearby McArthurGlen Designer Outlet.

“We are working closely with traffic management personnel and RCMP traffic enforcement; however, we anticipate heavy congestion and those travelling to and from the airport should expect delays,” YVR said, in a news release Wednesday.

The airport is asking shoppers to consider taking the Canada Line SkyTrain if possible, saying the outlet is only steps away from the Templeton Station.

Employees working on Sea Island are also advised to take SkyTrain on those days, or be prepared to leave early as heavy traffic is expected.

For those driving to the airport, YVR advises budgeting extra time and to have a parking plan. You can pre-book parking at yvr.ca/parking.  Delays are also expected at the Value Long Term lot, adjacent to Templeton Station.
