Signal 1 raised in Southern Luzon, Visayas

Typhoon sIgnal Number 1 was raised over parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas as Typhoon “Tisoy” remains off the coast east of Catanduanes, the weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration last spotted Tisoy at 885 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 185 kph. Pagasa said it was moving in a westward direction at a speed of 15 kph.

Signal Number 1 was raised in Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Masbate including Burias and Ticao Island. Signal Number 1 was also up in Samar, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Camotes Island and Leyte. Pagasa advised residents to be watchful for flashfloods and landslides.

Small boats were also warned against sea travel in areas under Signal 1 and the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of the country due to rough sea conditions.

Pagasa weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said “Tisoy” was forecast to make landfall in Bicol Region either on Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

The typhoon is expected to bring rains with gusty winds in Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas. Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorm would prevail over Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and the rest of Visayas.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon. Palawan and the rest of Mindanao may experience localized thunderstorms. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
