NAIA Terminals 1 to 4 closed from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Dec. 3 due to Typhoon Tisoy
MANILA, Philippines — Terminals 1 to 4 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will be closed from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, due to Typhoon Tisoy.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) made the announcement during a press conference on Monday evening.
“Napag-usapan ng mga airlines pati kami sa authority na isasara ho natin ang paliparan pagdating ng alas-onse ng umaga bukas at we’re looking at a window of 12 hours thereafter,” MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal said.
(The airlines and the authorities have decided to close the airport at 11 a.m. tomorrow [December 3] and we’re looking at a window of 12 hours thereafter.)
MIAA said the closure is a part of their measures for the safety of passengers amid the anticipated onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy.
At least 480 flights are expected to be affected by the closure covering local and international flights, Monreal said.
Once operations resume, priority will be given to scheduled flights while recovery flights will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Recovery flights must also have approval from the MIAA.
Passengers are advised to remain in their homes and coordinate with their respective airline carriers for information regarding their flights, MIAA said.
According to the state weather bureau’s 5 p.m. weather bulletin, Typhoon Tisoy was spotted 155 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 190 kph as of 4 p.m.
