Maguindanao 2nd District Rep. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu is optimistic about the promulgation in the Maguindanao Massacre case. Mangudadatu wanted to challenge then Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. in the race for governor of Maguindanao in the May 2010 elections. Andal Jr. is the son and namesake of the former governor. On Nov. 23, 2009, 58 people, including Mangudadatu’s wife and 32 journalists, who accompanied the challenger in filing his certificate of candidacy, were killed. About 100 suspects, including members of the powerful Ampatuan clan and some of their supporters, were tried for multiple murder in a trial that lasted for 10 years. VIDEO BY DARWIN PESCO
