Benguet solon passes away at 68

BENGUET Lone District Rep. Nestor Fongwan, Sr. passed away on Wednesday night, his son said. He was 68.

“My father is now with his creator,” his son, Board Member Nestor Fongwan, Jr. posted on Facebook.

The family has not disclosed details on the cause of the lawmaker’s death but his remains would be brought to Guadayan, Puguis town today, Thursday, his son said.

Fongwan was vice chairman of three committees at the House of Representatives namely, Agrarian Reform,  Indigenous Cultural Communities And Indigenous Peoples, and Natural Resources.

One of 21 bills Fongwan principally authored in the 18th Congress was an Act seeking to terminate the collection of toll fees along a portion of Benguet Road (Kenon Road). Fongwan has filed 21 bills.

Fongwan is a neophyte congressman. He was known as Benguet’s “Action Man,” having served his hometown for about 30 years.

He served as mayor of La Trinidad from 1998 to 2007 when the town entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest fruitcake in the world. Fongwan then served as governor of Benguet from 2007 to 2016. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
