VANCOUVER, B.C.: Saturday, Dec. 21. Happy Winter Solstice! The first day of winter is bringing a heavy dump of snow on several B.C. highways, including the Coquihalla Highway, and there are winter storm warnings in effect. Closer to home, however, rain continues to soak Metro Vancouver. Environment and Climate Change Canada says Saturday will start out raining, but that should dry up a bit for a mainly cloudy afternoon, though still with a chance of showers, and a high of 7 C. Overnight, it looks mainly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and then Sunday should be a bit brighter, with a mix of sun and cloud in the forecast, and a high of 5 C. Overnight Sunday the mercury drops to a low of 4 C. On Monday expect a mix of sun and cloud, with rain overnight and a low of 4 C. An earlier forecast form Environment and Climate Change Canada this week called for possible snow flurries on Monday and Tuesday night in Metro Vancouver, however that has now changed to rain so a white Christmas is now looking unlikely for the region. On Wednesday, also Christmas Day, the forecast calls for a 60 per cent chance of rain and a high of 7 C. Overnight though it looks like the temperature will drop to – 1 C, with possible snow flurries on Boxing Day.

Today: Rain ending early this afternoon then cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers. High 7 C.

Tonight: Mainly cloudy, with a 40 per cent chance of showers early this evening. Low plus 3 C.

Tomorrow: A mix of sun and cloud. High 7 C. UV index 1 or low.
