The union representing 900 SkyTrain workers has ratified a new four-year agreement with TransLink’s B.C. Rapid Transit Company.

CUPE 7000 says the agreement, ratified Sunday after four days of electronic voting, is retroactive to Sept. 1 and features a general wage increase of 3 per cent annually.

“This ratification concludes a very challenging round of bargaining and reflects the strong mandate that our bargaining committee received from members,” said CUPE 7000 President Tony Rebelo. “We couldn’t have reached this agreement without the dedication of those committee members, whose resolve held firm under difficult circumstances.”

The deal was struck Dec. 10 following an all-night bargaining session, narrowly avoiding a full shutdown of the Expo and Millennium lines by a matter of minutes.

The tentative SkyTrain contract came less than a week after bus drivers, mechanics and SeaBus staff at the Coast Mountain Bus Company ratified a deal that barely averted a full, three-day bus and SeaBus strike. Before that, there had been 27 days of escalating strike action, which included uniform and overtime bans.
