QUEZON City Mayor Joy Belmonte has ordered the monitoring of prices and supply of Noche Buena (Christmas eve feast) products in markets and other commercial establishments.

Belmonte has mobilized the Quezon City Price Coordinating Council (QCPCC) to ensure sufficient supply and to avoid overpricing of products that are in demand for the holidays.

Hindi dapat maging hadlang sa pagdiriwang ng Pasko ng ating mga kababayan ang mahal na presyo o kulang na supply ng bilihin (Christmas celebrations should not be hindered by high prices or insufficient supply),” Belmonte, who also serves as QCPCC chairman, said.

Kaya pinakilos na natin ang QCPCC upang matiyak na walang overpricing at sapat ang supply ng mga produktong pang-noche buena sa mga pamilihan sa ating lungsod,” added Belmonte, who also serves as QCPCC chairperson.

Belmonte on Tuesday, Christmas eve, dispatched a team to inspect Nepa Q Mart, Farmers Market, and Suki Market) to ensure that suggested retail prices (SRP) set by the government would be followed. The team also inspected the quality of goods, especially those that will be used during the festivities.

The QCPCC is composed of representatives from the Business Permit and Licensing Department, City Veterinary’s Office, Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD), and the City Treasurer’s Office.

Belmonte has activated the QCPCC through Executive Order 11 “to protect local residents from undue price increases and ensure adequate supply of goods and commodities following the implementation of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law.”

In the EO, Belmonte stressed the need to revive the QCPCC to “monitor pricing, prescribe measures and necessary mechanism for stabilizing prices and assure adequate supply for the welfare and protection of consumers.”

The QCPCC, as part of its mandate, “can coordinate and rationalize the functions of the member agencies to stabilize prices and supply of basic goods and prime commodities.” DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
