POEA issues partial deployment ban to Kuwait

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration yesterday issued a resolution on the deployment ban for newly hired domestic workers to Kuwait.

The POEA said in Governing Board Resolution No. 01, Series of 2020 that the ban shall be effective immediately.

“With the recent reported cases of maltreatment and deaths involving OFWs in Kuwait, specifically the death of OFW Jeanelyn Padernal Villavende, the DoLE Secretary (Silvestre Bello III), after consulting DFA Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. and Undersecretary Brigido Dulay, issued a memorandum dated Jan. 2, 2020 to POEA to immediately convene the Governing Board for the immediate issuance of a partial deployment ban involving Visa 20 (domestic workers) new hires and ‘balik manggagawa.’ The said memorandum also instructed the POEA to include a moratorium on the processing and verification of individual
