AMID the looming legalization of motorcycles as a mode of public transport, Grab Philippines is eyeing its re-entry into the business.

“Grab is seriously considering to re-invest in the motorcycle taxi denomination and relaunch its GrabBike service in the Philippines …,” it said in a statement on Tuesday.

The company saw an opportunity to reintroduce its motorcycle ride-hailing service GrabBike following the decision of the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) technical working group (TWG) to extend the pilot run of potential applicants until March.

The firm, known for its GrabCar services, discontinued GrabBike in mid-2016 after transportation agencies raised questions about safety.

In a letter of intent dated December 9 to Antonio Gardiola, Jr., the chairman of the TWG, Grab sought the inter-agency body’s approval to participate in the pilot test.

“Grab has prepared its approach for reviving its GrabBike service, and is ready to present to the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) and the DOTr anytime it is asked to,” Grab said. LISBET K. ESMAEL
