Turn yourself in, Mr. Mackenzie.

The director of a national program to locate Canada’s most wanted criminals have announced that for Norman John Mackenzie, there is really nowhere for him to hide.

“Someone knows where you are, Mr. Mackenzie,” Maxime Langlois of BOLO, an acronym for Be On The Lookout, said Wednesday.

“It is only a matter of time until you’re captured, put back behind bars, and face new charges for having been unlawfully at large.”

Langlois was speaking at a news conference at the RCMP’s E Division headquarters in Surrey where BOLO offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to Mackenzie’s arrest. The reward expires July 8.

Mackenzie was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder in 1982. He was serving his time at Mission Institution, a medium-security correctional facility east of Vancouver. During a head count on Aug. 7, 2018, officials discovered he was missing.

Mackenzie was also serving time for armed robbery and other offences.

Mission RCMP Insp. Stephen Corp said at the time of his escape, Mackenzie was considered a low-key inmate. He described Mackenzie as “extremely intelligent and computer savvy.”

He said Mackenzie is a white male, 59 years old, with blue eyes. His last known hair colour was light brown. He weighs 197 pounds and is five-foot-nine. He has a scar on the side of his right eye.

“The Mission RCMP believe that Mackenzie may have fled Canada and is currently at large internationally,” Corp said. Anyone with information about John McKenzie’s whereabouts is asked to contact Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

BOLO is a new approach to solving crime that uses social media and technology to help police locate the country’s most wanted criminals. It is a program initiated by the Stephan Crétier Foundation.

Crétier is the founder and CEO of Montreal-based GardaWorld Security, described as one of the world’s top-five global security firms.
