DENNIS Garcia, a member of the 70s OPM band “Hotdog”, passed away, his daughter said on his Facebook account. He was 69.

“For those of you who knew my father, it grieves me to inform you all that he passed away [Saturday night],” Isa Garcia wrote. “Our grief at his sudden passing is infinite and now so is he. Thank you for being with us through this difficult time.”

She did not state the cause of her father’s death.

Dennis Garcia’s passing comes more than a year after brother Rene, also of Hotdog, died of a heart attack on Sept. 7, 2018 at 65 years old.

The Garcia brothers formed Hotdog in 1972. They churned out hits such as Ikaw Ang Miss Universe ng Buhay KoBeh Buti Nga, O Lumapit Ka, Ikaw Pa Rin, and Bongga Ka ‘Day.

“Manila”, which is considered one of their most popular songs, was played to usher in the Philippine athletes at last year’s Southeast Asian Games opening ceremony at the Philippine Arena.

Garcia’s remains are at Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig, where masses will be held at 8 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

A tribute to one of the icons of original Pilipino music will also be held on Monday. ARIC JOHN SY CUA
