The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) expects San Miguel Corp.’s (SMC) proposal to extend the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAx) to secure the approval of the National Economic and Development Authority-Investment Coordination Committee (NEDA-ICC) within the first three months of 2020.

“I think [it is] moving forward, so hopefully soon — I think within the first quarter — we can expect [the] NEDA [approval],” Public Works Secretary Mark Villar told reporters late last week.

The proposal involved extending the expressway to Lawton Avenue, and further to Imelda Avenue to connect to Sucat, Parañaque City.

A 7.7-kilometer elevated highway linking NAIA Terminals 1, 2 and 3 to the Skyway, Cavite Expressway and Entertainment City, NAIAx is a private-public partnership project between the government and San Miguel.

The project cost for the extension is yet to be finalized, Villar said.

The NAIAx extension has been in the pipeline of the Ramon Ang-led company since 2017. It aims to further ease traffic jams in Metro Manila.
