Natural skin care is a beauty topic that has piqued many a curiosity.

The idea of using more plant-based ingredients in a self-care regime — and lifestyle, in general — has proven increasingly popular. And, many brands both homegrown and mass-market are seemingly happy to further explore the category right alongside consumers.

WILD GRACE, a Montreal-based natural skin-care company, is one such brand that’s aiming to offer quality skin care to Canadians, without the use of any harsh chemicals. We caught up with Kim Parenteau, the brand’s founder, to learn more:

Q: For those who aren’t familiar, what is WILD GRACE?

Kim Parenteau, the founder of WILD GRACE. Handout/Liana Carbone

A: WILD GRACE is an organic and vegan beauty brand. We are based in Montreal and pride ourselves in handcrafting high-quality, whole plant-based products to enhance your daily rituals and natural radiance.

Q: What makes it unique?

A: Our brand is inspired by my studies in Ayurveda, an ancient health system that is known as the sister science of yoga. Ayurveda — a Sanskrit word meaning “science of life” — states that as we are made of nature, we may thrive on nature; hence the importance of using the healing power of plants, found in their most natural state possible, to address all skin concerns and to enhance the skin to its natural state of radiance. There is no need for artificial ingredients to achieve great looking skin, quite the opposite. We must use ingredients the body can recognize, and assimilate, to obtain a truly natural glow. At WILD GRACE, we believe that skin care should really be skin food for it to thrive to its fullest, most radiant state.

Q: What made you want to create a natural self-care brand?

A: There are a few reasons why I created the WILD GRACE line. Firstly, to answer my own skin needs and concerns, which is very sensitive by nature. I had always been a high consumer of natural beauty products but could never find a brand that I loved enough or that truly answered my skin’s concerns. So, I naturally began making my own products.

The second reason which reinforced my desire to create a high-quality, non toxic, botanical skin-care brand was that I got skin cancer on my face, known as basal-cell carcinoma, back in 2010. This event really woke me up to the urgency of using completely natural beauty products for the sake of my own health and the planet’s.

Q: Who is your target customer?

A: My target customer is a woman who is self-aware and ready to invest in herself to improve the quality of her life. She knows the importance of daily rituals and thrives on them to heighten her own inner beauty and human potential. She feels connected to the earth and recognizes that when she uses handcrafted, high-quality botanical products, she just feels and looks her best and contributes in her own way not only to her own well-being but to the planet’s.

Q: Where are the products designed/made?

A: I am the founder and formulator of all WILD GRACE products. Our studio is located in the Mile-End district of Montreal, where we formulate, bottle and label every single one of our products.

Q: Is there a product that’s proving most popular? If so, which one and why?

A: Our Elixir Plumping Serum is definitely the most popular of our four available serums. It is the only one that is suited to all skin types (known as Tridoshic in the Sanskrit language). It is a special blend of many precious botanical ingredients, including an in-house macerate of rose flowers, calendula flowers, lavender, marshmallow roots and vanilla beans. It also contains well-known skin loving ingredients such as prickly pear oil, blue tansy essential oil and specialized add-ins that target hydration and skin-plumping properties such as hyaluronic acid, olive squalane, and coQ10 enzyme. It’s basically a superfood cocktail for the face!

Q: What is the price range for WILD GRACE products?

A: The prices range from $5 to $72.

Q: Lastly, where can people check them out?

A: You can find my products online at wildgrace.ca. On the website, you can also find the list of Canadian and international retailers who carry the WILD GRACE line.
