L’Occitane

OMY Shea Body Care

They say: A limited edition body care set that’s part of a larger special release from L’Occitane. The brand has partnered with French illustrators Elvire Laurent and Marie-Cerise Lichtlé on a collection of perfectly packaged body care products, plus a chic new scent — violet.

We say: The detailed designs on the packaging of these products are stunning. They make recycling the packaging after opening an almost regrettable experience. Thankfully, the products inside are just as nice as the exterior offering. Our tester enjoyed sampling a Shea Butter Extra Gentle Soap, Shea Violet Butter Hand Cream, Shea Violet Ultra Light Body Cream and Shea Butter Ultra Rich Shower Cream — all of which offered skin-softening results.

L’Oréal

Bambi Eyes Mascara

They say: A new mascara formula with a new “wide-eye brush” that mixes long and short bristles to “coat every lash,” while adding volume and definition. The formula is available in five iterations including Blackest Black, Black Brown, and Black, as well as two waterproof options.

We say: This mascara gave our tester’s lashes a nice lift and separation. She remarked on how clump-free the formula goes on. The applicator brush grabs lashes and is easy to use. The formula left lashes looking decidedly longer but not necessarily more voluminous.

CHANEL

Ombre Premiere Laque

They say: A new eyeshadow offering from CHANEL that offers long-wear performance in a liquid format. Available in five shades, the product is billed as providing up to eight hours of colour with a “second-skin veil.”

We say: Our tester tried the shade 28 Desert Wind, a metallic pewter-brown shade that gave lids a wash of smokey shine. Easy to apply thanks to the sponge-tip applicator, our tester blended the product with her fingertip for a softer, diffused daytime look. Unlike some liquid eyeshadows, which can crack and smear, these stayed in place remarkably well.
