AT least 36 Navoteño couples tied the knot at a free civil wedding ceremony organized by the city government of Navotas.

The Kasalang Bayan (Town Wedding), done regularly on Valentine’s Day and on the cityhood anniversary of Navotas, aims to legalize marriage of couples who have been living together.

“Most of you have been together for more than five years now. Whatever is your secret to making your relationship last, keep it. Let this ceremony strengthen your union and make your marriage happier,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

Meanwhile, Rep. John Rey Tiangco assured the newlyweds that the city government has services and programs to help their family live a quality life.

“The family is the basic unit of society. Strong families make outstanding communities. This is why our government gives top priority to improving the plight of every Navoteño family,” he said.

Aside from the Kasalang Bayan, other activities were also held in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Among them were the distributing of cookies to city hall employees, serenading of offices, speed dating and treating of qualified participants to a free dinner-date as well as food-crawling at the Kalye Pag-ibig (Love St.) food bazaar.
