Vancouver police need help identifying a man who broke into the Harbour Air seaplane terminal in Vancouver harbour Friday and stole a seaplane. Investigators released surveillance photos Wednesday of a person they hope someone in the aviation field might recognize.

Police believe that the man broke into the terminal Friday, and then into one of the seaplanes in the harbour. He started the plane and tried to leave with it. However, according to police, he was unsuccessful and crashed the plane into several other docked Harbour Air seaplanes. The seaplanes sustained extensive damage, including a torn wing on one of the planes.

The man is described by police as white and in his 40s. He’s believed to be about 5-foot-10, with an average build. He has short brown hair with a slightly receding hairline. Police say he’s clean-shaven and has a pronounced brow ridge. The man was wearing a red, long-sleeved, zip up sweater, dark pants and dress shoes.

Investigators believe the man has a working knowledge of planes, and are urging people to contact police if they recognize the man. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 604-717-0610 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
