Banac takes helm of PNP-Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY — Less than seven months after assuming his post as Eastern Visayas police director, Brigadier Gen. Rommel Bernardo Cabagnot has relinquished his post and entrusted it to Brigadier Gen. Bernard Banac, the former spokesperson of the police organization.

The turnover rites were held on Monday, February 7, at the regional headquarters of the Philippine National Police at Camp Ruperto Kangleon in Palo town, Leyte.

Police Director General Dionardo Carlos, who once led the police organization in the region, was the guest speaker during the turnover ceremony.

The departure of Cabagnot from the region was part of the reshuffling of police officials initiated by Carlos.

Prior to his assumption as the new police regional director for Eastern Visayas, Banac served as PNP’s spokesperson under the term of former police director and retired General Archie Gamboa.

Cabagnot, who served the region from August last year until Monday, was assigned to the central headquarters of the PNP.

Banac, who is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Tanglaw-Diwa” Class of 1992, appealed to the policemen in the region for their support.

“I am deeply humbled being your new regional director–a position which entails a lot of hard work and determination. I just want to ask for your full support and cooperation under my command. I know there are no shortcuts to attain our common goals but with you by my side, we can literally make it,” he said in a statement.

PNP chief Carlos lauded Cabagnot for a “job well done.”

“Thank you for the sincere service you have rendered to the Waraynon Warriors and of the entire Eastern Visayas,” Carlos said.

Cabagnot expressed his gratitude for the support he received from the men and women of the policemen in the region.

“Serving Police Regional Office-8, although a bit short, is indeed unparalleled. Working with you is beyond compare given your warmth and dedication which had me fueled all along,” he said.
