MANILA, Philippines — Makati Mayor Abby Binay on Friday led the proclamation rally for the whole slate of her administration’s Makatizens United Party at the Makati City Hall Quadrangle.

She is running for her third and final term as local chief executive of the country’s financial district.

The mayor and other re-electionist local officials and new candidates were joined on stage by her father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is running for senator under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) which he chairs.

Speaking before supporters from the city’s 33 barangays, Mayor Abby expressed her gratitude for their unwavering support since she was first elected Mayor six years ago.

The mayor said that with their help, she was able improve governance, enhance and expand programs and services initiated by her father, and give faithful and wholehearted service to Makatizens, just as she had promised.

Mayor Abby also acknowledged the full support of the majority Councilors in the Sangguniang Panlungsod, which has ensured the timely implementation of policies, programs and projects of the city government, including pandemic-response initiatives.

She appealed to Makatizens to vote straight for Makatizens United, which will give her administration the impetus to move full steam ahead with more innovative and high-impact programs aimed to build a sustainable future for all stakeholders.

The Makatizen United line-up of candidates for the city council in the first district consists of re-electionists Virgilio “Jhong” Hilario, Luis “Jojo” Javier, Armando “Armand” Padilla, Rene Andrei “Rebo” Saguisag, Jose “Joey” Villena, Martin Arenas, and Anna Alcina “Alcine” Yabut, together with Carmina Ortega.

Among the major achievements cited by Mayor Abby were pioneering PPP-led initiatives like Makatizen Card, Makati Subway, and Makati Life Medical Center. The all-purpose government ID facilitated the contactless distribution of cash aid to residents during lockdowns, while the subway and the state-of-the-art hospital will promote inclusive growth and a better quality of life.

The city’s transition to the new normal is also being boosted by the recent completion of community complexes in seven barangays for recreational activities, and the ongoing distribution of new shoes, uniforms, bags and other school gear to public school students who are getting ready for face-to-face classes.
