DOH COVID-19 tracker: Active cases dip below 5,000-mark as of May 4
MANILA, Philippines — The country’s active coronavirus cases fell below 5,000 as of Wednesday, based on the COVID-19 tracker of the Department of Health (DOH).
The number of active infections had been consistently decreasing in the past few days. May 4 data indicated that active COVID-19 cases stood at 4,692 – further down from 5,145 active cases recorded on Tuesday.
A total of 16,889 people were tested for SARS-CoV-2 on May 3 according to the DOH. SARS-CoV-2 was the latest strain of coronavirus that causes serious respiratory illness COVID-19.
The DOH COVID-19 tracker also showed that 159 more people in the country contracted the coronavirus. This was slightly higher than the registered 134 new cases on May 3.
On Monday, the DOH reported that 1,399 fresh coronavirus infections were logged from April 25 to May 1, or a daily average of 200 new cases during that week.
To date, the Philippines has 3,686,375 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 3,621,244 recoveries and 60,439 deaths.
