Holmgren’s NBA summer league debut has the mayor of Oklahoma City ecstatic

Chet Holmgren took the floor for the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night in NBA summer league. Less than two weeks ago, Holmgren was selected second overall by the Thunder in the 2022 NBA draft. His size and skill set made him a top-two pick, and he has caught the attention of a high-profile figure in Oklahoma.

In his summer league debut, Holmgren scored 13 points in the first quarter, showing off his inside and outside scoring abilities. His 13 were more points than the entire Jazz squad in the first frame. He also rejected three shots, one of them on 7-foot center Tacko Fall.

Oklahoma City mayor David Holt was watching Holmgren in action, and he’s ready to clear his schedule to watch the Gonzaga alum at the NBA level.

It’s still the summer league and Holmgren’s first minutes of NBA action, but Holt’s excitement seems warranted. Entering the draft, Holmgren was one of the top prospects and received the lofty “unicorn” label for his special skill set. If Tuesday night is any indication of Holmgren’s future, Holt should feel confident about the Thunder over the next several years.
