DOH: 1,298 more contract COVID-19 in PH from March 20-26

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it recorded a total of 1,298 new COVID-19 infections from March 20-26.

Based on the DOH’s latest weekly COVID-19 bulletin, the fresh infections mean a daily average of 185 cases which is 11 percent higher than the 167 daily average recorded the week before. The total number of new COVID-19 cases logged from March 13-19 was 1,171.

Of the 1,298 fresh infections, 10 were tagged as critical or severe. The DOH’s latest data also indicated that active critical or severe COVID-19 admissions have reached 307.

The weekly bulletin of DOH likewise mentioned that 60 more COVID-19 patients were added to the death toll although the cases did not die during the past two weeks as they were backlogs since June 2020 and only finally validated recently.

With the slight rise in infections, the utilization of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients increased a little from 13.3 to 14 percent while the non-ICU bed utilization rate decreased from 17 to 16.5 percent.

Meanwhile, the DOH did not release new data on vaccination accomplishments. The latest information on vaccination progress was still as of March 19, with a total of 78,443,972 fully vaccinated individuals and 23,811,248 boosted people nationwide.

Based on the DOH’s COVID-19 online tracker, the Philippines’ total coronavirus cases reached 4,080,410 as of March 27. The sum included 4,005,442 recoveries and 66,342 deaths.

On the other hand, active COVID-19 cases or people currently sick of the disease totaled 8,626 as of March 27.
