Pokwang named celebrity icon of Mrs. Universe Philippines pageant

Pokwang proved she has the makings of a beauty queen after being named the Queen Celebrity Icon Ambassadress at the Mrs. Universe Philippines pageant.

The actress-comedienne was crowned by members of the Mrs. Universe Philippines Organization, as seen in her Instagram account last Monday, June 19, where the national tilt took place on the same day.

“Thank you #MrsUniversemostExceptionalwoman2023 thank you po @daddie_wowie @charo.laude for the recognition. Isa pong karangalan,” she said in the caption of her post.

Meanwhile, actress Andrea Del Rosario was named as the Queen Tourism Ambassadress in the pageant.

In another Instagram post, a newly crowned Pokwang, donning a red off-the-shoulder gown, did a catwalk at the GMA headquarters in Quezon City, with her bejeweled crown on display.

“Sa mga nag que Question bakit daw ako? Kung di ako sino? Kung di ngayon kailan? Katarungan para kay ka Dencio!!! [laughing emoji] Mrs Universe Philippines Queen Celebrity Icon Ambassadress 2023,” she said in jest.

(To those who are questioning why I was crowned, if it’s not me, then who should be crowned? If not now, then when. This is justice for Dencio. Mrs Universe Philippines Queen Celebrity Icon Ambassadress 2023.)

The post of the “Tiktoclock” host caught the attention of seasoned actor John Arcilla and ABS-CBN’s AdProm Head Eric John Salut, as seen in the comments of her post.

Pokwang’s recent milestone came after she filed a deportation complaint against her estranged partner Lee O’Brian at a Bureau of Immigration.

“Kailangan natin mabigyan ng leksyon ‘yung mga taong umaabuso sa batas natin at sa karapatan ng bawat babae at bawat nanay. Sobra [ang] ginawa niya, mentally. Hindi ako makatulog sa sobrang [sakit]. Hindi niya nagagawa ang obligasyon niya bilang ama. Sobrang masakit ‘yun para sa anak namin,” she said, explaining why she chose to file a complaint against O’Brian.

(We have to teach those who violate the law a lesson, especially when it comes to people who abuse women and mothers. He did so much to me mentally. I couldn’t even sleep because of the pain. He didn’t fulfill his obligation as a father. It’s really painful for my daughter.) EDV
