MANILA, Philippines — The recent Pulse Asia survey showing 78 percent of Filipinos favoring mandatory military training has invigorated the military chief to once again push for the return of reserved officer training courses (ROTC).

Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Andres Centino claimed the Pulse Asia survey is an indication of high approval.

“As we witness the growing support for mandatory ROTC, we are reminded of the power of the collective voice of the Filipino people,” Centino said on Monday.

Centino spoke at a dinner attended by University of the Philippines-Diliman ROTC training staff and cadet officers, as well as the UP Vanguard and its national commander Luis Juan Oreta.

“Their approval reflects their trust in the power of military training to shape the character and future of our nation,” he added.
