Pagasa: Expect rainy Thursday in Metro Manila and rest of PH due to LPA, habagat

MANILA, Philippines — Rainy weather is widespread throughout the archipelago due to the combined effects of the low-pressure area (LPA) off Infanta, Quezon and the southwest monsoon, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday.

Weather specialist Patrick Del Mundo said that the LPA is unlikely to become a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours but already affects several parts of the country. It was last seen 295 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.

“Itong LPA ay mababa pa rin ang tiyansa na maging isang bagyo within the next 24 hours, ngunit inaasahan natin na posible itong lumapit sa bahagi ng Aurora, Quezon, at Camarines Norte area,” said Del Mundo.

(This LPA remained less likely to become a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours, but we are expecting it to move closer to parts of Aurora, Quezon, and Camarines Norte area.)

“Umiiral pa rin ang southwest monsoon sa Southern Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao. Dahil sa pinagsamang epekto ng LPA at southwest monsoon ay inaasahan natin na sa buong maghapon ay magiging maulap ang kalangitan na may kalat-kalat na pag-ulan, pagkidlat, at pagkulog,” he added.

(The southwest monsoon still affects Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Due to the combined effects of LPA and southwest monsoon, we expect the sky to be cloudy throughout the day, along  with scattered rain, lightning, and thunder.)

Del Mundo said the LPA and the southwest monsoon will trigger rain showers and thunderstorms in Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and BARMM on Thursday. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is directly affecting Davao Region and SOCCSKSARGEN.

The rainy weather conditions, especially in Luzon and Visayas, will persist until the weekend, said Del Mundo.
