DMW: No Pinoys on British tanker attacked by Houthis

MANILA, Philippines — There are no Filipino seafarers on board the British oil tanker targeted by Yemen’s Houthi rebels last Friday, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
“The oil tanker reportedly attacked in the Gulf of Aden, the Marlin Luanda, has no Filipino crew on board,” DMW officer-in-charge Hans Cacdac posted on X, formerly Twitter.
All crewmembers of the Marshall Islands-flagged ship are reported safe and sailing toward a safe harbor.
The Marlin Luanda caught fire after being hit by an anti-ship missile as it transited the Red Sea.
Some shipping companies have suspended transits through the Red Sea – which is accessed from the Gulf of Aden – and have taken longer, costlier journeys around Africa to avoid being attacked by Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi group, which began launching waves of exploding drones and missiles at vessels on Nov. 19 in response to Israel’s military operations in Gaza.
