1 dead, 2 hurt in shooting at drinking session in Candelaria, Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A jovial drinking session among friends turned tragic on Friday night (March 1) after one of them was shot and killed and two others were wounded in Candelaria town in Quezon province, police said.

Quezon police in a report Saturday (March 2) said Manolito Laygo, 56; Sergio Bosita, 61; and Edwin Aquino, 51, were in a drinking session in the house owned by Lester Delos Reyes in Barangay (village) Buenavista West around 8:55 p.m. when one alias “Roy” barged in.

Without any provocation, Roy, also a resident of the same village, repeatedly shot Laygo in different parts of the body with a caliber .45 pistol.

Stray bullets hit Bosita on his neck and Aquino on his left leg.

The victims were taken to Peter Paul Medical Center in the locality but Laygo was declared dead on arrival.

The gunman was later arrested by policemen and was detained at the local police jail.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the motive behind the incident.
