Outing turns tragic as picnicker drowns in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A family weekend outing turned tragic after one of the picnickers drowned in a river in Infanta town in Quezon province on Sunday, April 21, the police said.

Investigators on Monday said the victim, “Melchor,” 23, and his family, all residents of Caloocan City, went for a picnic at a resort along the Agos River in Barangay Magsaysay on Sunday morning.

While preparing food, Melchor and his companions were left in a shallow part of the river.

Moments later, Melchor was found unconscious and his body floating in another part of the river.

Rescuers tried to revive the boy but failed and rushed him to Claro M. Recto Memorial District Hospital in the town center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police are conducting further investigations. The remains of the victim will be subjected to a post-mortem examination and autopsy to determine the cause of his death.For now, police have recorded the case as a “drowning incident.” INQ
