No OFWs injured in Taiwan quakes

MANILA, Philippines — No overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were injured in the series of earthquakes that shook Taiwan early yesterday morning, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

In a statement, the DMW said that its Migrant Workers Offices (MWO) in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung cities are on alert and monitoring the situation.

“The MWOs are ready to assist any OFWs who may have been injured or affected by the earthquake,” the statement also read.?The DMW cited the Taiwan Central Weather Administration reports of a 6.1 magnitude quake at 2:21 a.m. and a 5.8 magnitude temblor at 2:49 a.m.

Together with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, the DMW and its MWOs are working with Filipino communities and leaders, local authorities and employers to ascertain the safety and status of the Filipino workers in Taiwan.

There are about 200,000 OFWs in Taiwan.
