Can Django be trusted? Members of Team Zafra share their thoughts | Coco Martin’s Sigabo

The tension indeed continues to intensify in “Coco Martin’s Sigabo“! While our beloved main hero, Gabo (Coco Martin), remains focused on protecting his fake wife, Sam/Gloria (Julia Montes), from people hunting her down with the help of his family and friends, his perennial nemesis, Django (Jhong Hilario), on the other hand, has been very busy working with the notorious Zafra family.  

As the authorities have launched a crackdown on their businesses under the orders of former PMGEN Ricardo Jacinto (Edu Manzano), the longtime rival of the Zafra patriarch, ex-PLTCOL Mariano Zafra (Efren Reyes), decides to tap father-and-son tandem Django and Paquito (Rez Cortez), to assist them in carrying out the mission to recover their gold bars and jewelry seized by NLEA.  

Apparently, the secret partnership between Mariano and Paquito goes way back because of how easy it is for both of them to contact each other whenever they are in need. But now that he’s old, Paquito has already passed on his crown and throne as “Hari ng Tondo” to his son, Django. On the other hand, as his beloved eldest son, Victor (JM de Guzman), is still in jail after being captured by the NCIA, Mariano still finds it hard to entrust their family’s gold-smuggling syndicate with his youngest son, Lucas (Ron Martin), due to the consecutive failures he has committed. 

Desperate to take back the gold confiscated by NLEA during the recent surprise raid at their warehouse, Mariano hires Django through Paquito. Mariano asks them to sabotage the police’s mission to deliver the gold they’d seized to the NLEA safehouse by intercepting them while enroute. He and his group may have failed to complete their mission, yet Django manages to take one bag of gold and personally returns it to Mariano.  

It was seemingly enough to impress Mariano, as he once again hired Django and his group to ultimately complete their unfinished business. This time, however, they must work under the leadership of Lucas, to which Django was compelled to agree as Deborah (Chanda Romero) reminded him that it’s not a small-time gig and it’s their family who has hired them, so he has to follow as they say.  

As the leader of the team, Lucas initially took charge of plotting their attack on the NLEA safehouse. But Django challenged Lucas’ plan by suggesting that instead of engaging in a gunfight with the police, it may be better for them to wait for the guards to change shifts, they seize the opportunity to launch their attack. He argued that there’s no need for them to face the authorities head-on since they could simply catch them off guard to prevent them from calling for back-up and cornering them until it’s already impossible for them to go out alive. 

Although Mariano approved Django’s suggestion, Lucas remained hesitant to go along with the plan, as he doubted whether it would actually work. He told Django that, whether he likes it or not, they’re going to need weapons once the situation escalates into a full-blown clash. 

But as viewers look forward to seeing whether Django and Lucas’ risky and tense partnership will really succeed, another question comes to mind: “Can Django really be trusted?” In this episode of CCM Exclusives, some of the actors who portray the members of Team Zafra share their thoughts on whether they would out their trust in the notorious criminal. 

First up is Joseph Cabral, who plays Stallone, one of the henchmen of the Zafra family. He perceives Django as someone they can hardly count on because he only thinks about himself. And while Django may think he can outsmart them, Stallone points out that he should be wary of them, too, since they’re all criminals after all.  

Robi Dizon, who takes on the role of Zafra minion Norris, shares the same opinion. Since they are all thieves themselves, they know exactly how their fellow criminals move or behave. So, for him, that makes Django less deserving of their group’s trust, especially given how cunning he can be. 

Meanwhile, Ian Ignacio, who plays another Zafra henchman Lao, has a different reason for distrusting Django. Having been friends with Victor and Lucas and working under them since their childhood years, his character naturally shares their sentiments when it comes to people like Django.  

Being the only rose among the thorns, Janice Hung thinks that her character, Magie Lee, is unlikely to trust Django, too. Lee is aware of how cunning and greedy Django can be, so she’ll take great caution. Describing Lee as someone who is very calculated and observant, Janice says her character will carefully watch the consistency of Django’s actions and will strive to uncover his true motives.  

Moreover, trust—for Lee—is something that must be earned over time. While she can work with Django, that doesn’t mean she will immediately put her trust in him because he still needs to prove himself first before he can gain it. 

Seasoned actor Richard Quan, meanwhile, says that his character, Arturo Lucero, certainly doesn’t trust Django for two reasons: Arturo is not the type of person who easily trusts others, and Django is not exactly someone who deserves his confidence at the same time. 

Ron Martin, who portrays Zafra scion Lucas, also opens up on his character’s obvious distrust of Django. Knowing Lucas, Ron relates that he doesn’t really trust anyone—most especially Django. 

His onscreen mother, Chanda Romero, stays in her character as Deborah Zafra, as she gives her own take on the matter. She blurts out, “‘Yong Django? Sino ‘yan? Saan ba nanggaling ‘yan? Ano’ng istorya ng buhay niya? Mga Zafra kami. Hindi kami nagpapasok ng kahit sino sa mundo namin!” 

Veteran actor Efren Reyes also remains in character as retired general Mariano Zafra as he answers the question. Like the other members of Team Zafra, Mariano does not completely trust Django and openly admits that he is merely using him for his own benefit.

“Kung pagtitiwala, hindi lubos ang tiwala ko. ‘Pag gamit, gagamitin ko. Hangga’t may pakinabang, gagamitin ko. Maliwanag? Nagkaintindihan ba tayo?” he states. 

With the entire Team Zafra seemingly unwilling to put their full trust in Django, can this unlikely alliance still succeed in carrying out their mission?
