Liu Wen’s Best Fashion Moments Throughout Her 20-Year Supermodel Career

For two decades, Liu Wen has dedicated a life in high fashion. Since making her international breakthrough in the 2000s, the Hunan-born supermodel has become one of the most recognizable faces to emerge from China, collecting a series of industry firsts along the way. She is the first Chinese model to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, returning to its runway across multiple eras, and once set a remarkable single-season record by appearing in 74 shows across New York, London, Milan and Paris.

Her personal life has also drawn attention: she has long been romantically linked to Chinese actor Jing Boran, with the pair appearing together in Chanel’s 2023 Coco Crush campaign—a particularly stylish intersection of two major figures in Chinese fashion and entertainment.

Liu Wen’s modeling career began in 2005, when, at 17, she entered the New Silk Road World Model Contest in Hunan. She won the regional semi-final but did not place in the national final. Her exposure during the competition opened another door for her when she was offered modeling work in Beijing.

The breakthrough came in 2008, when Liu made her international runway debut during the Fall/Winter season. She walked for Burberry and Trussardi before heading to Paris, where she appeared for Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier and Hermès. 

If 2008 established Liu Wen internationally, 2009 transformed her into a global runway phenomenon. During the Fall 2009 ready-to-wear season, she walked 74 shows across New York, London, Milan and Paris—the highest number recorded for a model that season and a figure that remains one of the defining statistics of her career.

She followed the feat with another astonishing season, walking 70 shows for Spring 2010.

In 2009, Liu Wen also achieved another milestone when she became the first Chinese model to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. She would return to the show in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2018, before returning again in 2024 and 2025.

In 2010, Liu attended the Met Gala for the first time. She has attended the Met Gala 14 times.

Liu made her first appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012, wearing Roberto Cavalli. At Cannes, she also attended the amfAR Gala.

In 2017, Liu was appointed a global ambassador for Chanel Beauty, further cementing her relationship with one of fashion’s most influential maisons.

In 2024, Liu Wen was honored in a particularly tangible way when Madame Tussauds Hong Kong unveiled her wax figure, making her the first Chinese model represented in the attraction’s Fashion Zone.
