UNIS, K-pop girl group with Pinoy members, announces disbandment

UNIS, a K-pop girl group with Filipino members, is set to disband after two and a half years of activities, its agency announced late Tuesday.

The disbandment comes as the group’s exclusive contract with F&F Entertainment is set to expire on September 26, the company said in a statement posted on X.

“The company and the members have continuously discussed the contract period and the direction of their future activities. After thorough discussions, we have ultimately decided to conclude UNIS’s official activities as a full group in accordance with the originally scheduled contract period,” F&F said in the statement that was translated into English by K-pop news website Soompi.

The company thanked the members “who have poured their passion and sincerity into creating countless performances and precious moments under the name UNIS.”

“Although their official activities together as UNIS will come to an end, we will also sincerely support the members as they embark on new beginnings, continue pursuing their dreams in their respective paths, and grow further,” it said.

Prior to the disbandment announcement, UNIS revealed plans to put out a digital single titled “Milky Way” on September 23, with concept photos for the release already being rolled out on the group’s social media channels.

UNIS was formed through the reality talent competition series “Universe Ticket,” which aired on South Korean broadcaster SBS in 2023.

The winning members debuted as UNIS in March 2024 with the extended play “WE UNIS.”

The group has drawn strong support from Filipino fans, particularly for its multinational lineup that includes Filipinos Elisia Parmisano and Gehlee Dangca, as well as Filipino-Korean member Hyeonju.

UNIS also comprises Korean members Yunha, Seowon and Yoona, and Japanese members Nana and Kotoko.

In April, the group visited the Philippines to perform at the 2026 Otaku Pop Fes at Okada Manila.
