WHO SAID THIS: Shawn Wayans delivers a hilarious clapback in ‘White Chicks’
“You want to talk about mothers.”
This humorous line was popularized by Kevin Copeland (Shawn Wayans) while impersonating Tiffany Wilson in the 2004 hit comedy film White Chicks, directed by brothers Marlon and Shawn Wayans.
The film follows brothers Kevin and Marcus Copeland (Marlon Wayans), who are given the task of protecting wealthy socialite sisters Brittany and Tiffany Wilson since they are FBI agents. After an accident leaves the real sisters unwilling to attend a high-profile socialite event, the brothers come up with an unusual plan: they use elaborate disguises to impersonate the women and go undercover in their place.
While posing as the Wilson sisters, Kevin and Marcus find themselves surrounded by their friends and rivals, including the wealthy Vandergeld sisters, Heather and Megan.
The rivals quickly get into a battle of insults, with both sides trading jabs about their families and social status.
When Megan tries to mock Kevin/Brittany and Marcus/Tiffany by bringing up their mother and her supposed habit of shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue implying that she is trying too hard to be high-class, Kevin/Brittany immediately fires back with the now-famous line: “You want to talk about mothers.”
The line is funny not only because of the words themselves, but because of how Kevin/Brittany delivers it. Instead of backing down from the insult, he says it with the confidence of someone preparing to unleash an even bigger comeback.
The exaggerated delivery, combined with the ridiculous situation of two FBI agents pretending to be wealthy white socialites, makes the exchange even more hilarious.
It also perfectly captures the humor of White Chicks, where ordinary situations are deliberately taken to absurd extremes. What could have been a simple argument between socialites becomes an exaggerated verbal battle, with Kevin and Marcus matching the Vandergeld sisters’ attitude instead of allowing themselves to be intimidated.
Part of White Chicks‘ lasting appeal comes from its completely absurd premise where two tough Black American FBI agents are going undercover as petite, wealthy, and over-the-top white socialites, giving the Wayans brothers plenty of opportunities for physical comedy, exaggerated reactions, and chaotic situations.
The film is also remembered for Terry Crews’ performance as Latrell Spencer, whose exaggerated pursuit of Marcus while he is disguised as Tiffany produced several memorable comedic moments. Among the movie’s most recognizable scenes are Latrell singing along to Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles,” the dance-off against the Vandergeld sisters, and just the brothers undergoing extreme physical transformations to become White American ladies.
Over the years, White Chicks also found a second life through social media. Its reaction shots, one-liners, costumes, and exaggerated scenes became widely used in memes and online references, introducing comedy to a new generation.
The film grossed more than $110 million (around ₱6.9 billion) worldwide, according to Variety.
20 years later, fans have continued to ask about a possible sequel. In June 2026, the Wayans brothers said that White Chicks 2 “can happen” if their latest comedy film Scary Movie 6 performs well at the box office.
As of now, however, there has been no confirmation that a sequel is moving forward.
