Former Miss Jamaica sues Miss Universe over onstage fall

Former Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry has filed a lawsuit against the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) nearly one year after her shocking fall from the pageant stage. 

According to a report from People, Henry brought five claims against MUO and two of its parent companies, JKN Legacy Inc. and Legacy Holding Group USA, in a lawsuit filed in Delaware Supreme Court last September 21. 

These include negligence, premises liability, negligent hiring, retention and supervision, and both negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress. 

As quoted by the report, Henry said she suffered “traumatic brain injury with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage, frontal lobe hemorrhagic contusion, and subdural hemorrhage” after falling about five feet through an “unmarked and uncovered opening in the stage” during the Miss Universe preliminary competition last November. 

She said the incident, which left her hospitalized for about a month, was the “most traumatic moment” of her life. 

In a statement sent to People, MUO claimed that the organization has not yet received any lawsuit from Henry. 

“We are therefore not in a position to comment on claims we have not seen,” it said.
