Gladys Reyes on being a recording artist: ‘Blessing yun para sa akin’

Kapamilya actress and now singer, Gladys Reyes, admitted that she never thought she’d enter the music industry. In an interview with King of Talk Boy Abunda on Fast Talk earlier this week, the “Primera Kontrabida” hitmaker shared how her music career started and what her fans can expect from her. 

While she had never thought to release an album, Gladys maintained that she is grateful for the opportunity given to her by StarPop. 

“No, Tito Boy. May album ka pero photo album. Pero yung kanta mismo at makikita ko yung mukha ko. Never sa hinagagap ko na aba puwede pa pala, ‘di ba? Sabi mo nga 40 years in the business and I’m so grateful. Blessing yun para sa akin,” she expressed.

The Kapamilya singer-actress added how the song is about the real antagonists in people’s lives–– from the negative comments made against you in the family reunion to two-faced people. 

“‘Primera kontrabida’ is a real talk sa mga real life kontrabidas in our lives–– marami ito sa totoong buhay. Ang sabi ko nga doon, at least yung sa akin acting lang sa inyo, totohanan. Halimbawa sa isang reunion, tuwing aattend ka nalang ng reunion yung tita mo wala ng sinabi kung hindi ang taba mo ngayon. So ang feeling mo kontrabida si tita sa buhay mo. Maraming ganun,” she shared.

As she steps into a new era in the industry, Gladys is excited to share that the music video for her single is coming out soon. She gave her fans a teaser on what the music video will give them–– nostalgia and iconic moments. 

“Lalabas na ang aming music video very soon at masasabi ko lang, it’s not just an ordinary music video. It’s very nostalgic and iconic. Maniwala talaga kayo na mag kaka concert ako,” she maintained. 

In the same interview, Gladys shared how her son Christof has been a source of inspiration for her when it comes to entering the music scene. His son, who is also under Star Magic, has released several hit songs that have been relatable to the younger generation. 

“Hindi mas magaling siya, aminado ako doon kasi singer-songwriter talaga siya. At tsaka, musika talaga ang kanyang bread and butter. I think yung choice of songs niya kahit nung lumalaki siya, si Christopher yun at yung tatay ko–– old soul si Christof eh. Pero yung performance level, I would like to think ako yun–– medyo hindi nahihiya. Malakas ang loob, showmanship,” Gladys said.
